We, a former advisor to President Bill Clinton’s campaign and a former member of the George W. Bush Administration, may not agree on many public policy issues. Figuratively speaking, we wear different colored hats. But we have joined together to sound the alarm against censorship.
By almost any measure, the first three months of 2021 were the worst ever for online freedom. Amazon, Twitter, Apple, Google, Facebook, YouTube and others proved to the world that the Big Tech censorship of conservatives is a reality. And they did so in disturbing, authoritarian ways that highlight their unchecked power over information and our political process.
Free speech is not just a Constitutional protection that protects us from government tyranny, but it is a guiding principle of our society and a cornerstone of our liberty. One group of Americans with one ideological belief system should not use their power to suppress the speech of others. A number of conservative constitutionalists have come together to hold US corporations accountable when they become weaponized corporate tools of the left.
American Constitutional Rights Union and American Constitutional Rights Union Action Fund unequivocally condemn any and all actions by government officials, the private sector, and government officials in collusion with the private sector, to limit, suppress or censor free speech of any American citizen or organization.
On October 14th, the New York Post ran a story reprinting an email allegedly from a Ukrainian oil exec thanking Hunter Biden for providing access to his father, VP Joe Biden. Twitter and Facebook have blocked circulation of this article. It is not up to liberal social media censors to assess the veracity of these claims -- it's up to the American people. #freedomtoread
