Yes, I can hear the usual suspects ranting about islamophobia, their voices are irrelevant and hence give me no cause for consternation. This is a very serious topic that we must examine and analyze, because the recent events in Nigeria are disturbing. But this is just an ongoing, historically proven issue with a totalitarian theocratic system of belief, which we must no longer dismiss. I have often said that when tolerance becomes a one-way street, it leads to cultural suicide. And when it comes to engaging this deadly religion, we must lest the we follow the path of Western European countries like England and France.
True Freedom of Religion
First, we must understand our own constitutional freedom, our first liberty, which is the freedom of religion and the free exercise thereof. That first liberty, found in our Bill of Rights, finds its roots in religious persecution. It was based upon King Henry VIII’s decision to create his very own church (the Church of England) and add Head of the Church to his title of Head of State. Those who did not recognize him as an ecumenical head or joined the Church of England were prosecuted and persecuted. Even King Henry’s most trusted adviser, Thomas More, was accused, charged, convicted, and beheaded for not recognizing Henry as the Head of the Church.
Therefore, the early Pilgrims who fled from England did so in search of religious freedom. It was that lesson from Mother England that caused our founders to ensure that first liberty.
And when questioned by the Danbury Baptist Convention of Connecticut, it was Thomas Jefferson who wrote them a letter ensuring that there would always, in America, be a separation of church and state. The Baptists were concerned that Presbyterianism was becoming the national religion. However, today, Marxist leftists and secular humanists have taken Jefferson’s letter to mean that we must separate our Judeo-Christian faith heritage from the core of who we are as a Constitutional Republic. Jefferson’s letter was meant to guarantee that the Church would never fall into submission to the state, and the Church would be protected thereof.
So, in America, our very individual right, freedom, and liberty is our freedom of religion and the free exercise thereof. How can we accept a faith system that does not embrace that very ideal?
Religious Persecution
Christians are being slaughtered in Nigeria for one reason: they are Christian. There have been some 15 million displaced, 9,100 Churches destroyed, Christian ministers targeted, hostages taken, tens of thousands murdered in brutal fashion, along with women raped. The ones committing these heinous crimes are followers of Islam, which in itself means submission. This is also happening in Sudan. It is happening in the Middle East, where ancient Christian communities are being eradicated. This is a genocide of mass proportions, yet the world says nothing.
At the time Saddam Hussein was deposed, there were over one million Christians in Iraq; today, the number is just over 100K. Lebanon once boasted a Christian community of 80%; today, it is 30%. Christians have fled the areas of Gaza and the West Bank (Judea-Samaria), as we know who has been given rule over these areas. In Syria, where President Trump lifted sanctions, the new president there (a former Al Qaeda and al-Nusra Front Islamic terrorist organizations member), Christian villages are being burned to the ground. Coptic Christians in Egypt live in constant fear. Why?
What If…
Our so-called ally, Saudi Arabia, still to this day does not allow “infidels” into the holiest cities of Islam, Mecca and Medina. Imagine if in America, what would be said if we banned or restricted Muslims from Washington, D.C.? We just signed an agreement with Qatar allowing them to conduct fighter pilot training in the United States. We also have an active US airbase in Qatar. Did you know that in Qatar, conversion to Christianity by a muslim is a punishable offense, carrying the death penalty? It’s called apostasy.
And even here in America, we have a muslim Mayor of Dearborn, Michigan, telling a Christian pastor that he is not welcome in “his” city. What brought about this exchange? The Pastor disagreed with having a city in Dearborn named after a Hamas supporter. Recently, in Dallas-Ft. Worth airport, a Christian was forced to leave the Interfaith Chapel by, yeah, you know the answer, followers of the world’s most intolerant religion. How soon will it be that rape gangs and “no-go zones” become a part of the American framework and society? Ooops, I thought leftists were all about inclusion? Quite ironic since Marxist leftists join with Islamic jihadists against Christians and Jews.
I might want to be careful about what I am writing in this missive since the 57 nations of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation would like to criminalize any deemed “offensive speech” in reference to Islam. So much for that whole Western civilizational ideal of freedom of speech, expression, and conscience.
Constitutionally Compatible?
So, why are we so accepting of a faith system that is unaccepting? Yeah, there is a bit of stuck on stupid involved, but from a purely constitutional rights perspective, it is unconscionable. Nope, I am not hating on anyone, but I am not going to allow myself to be a victim of those who do hate. And I am just asking a simple constitutional question: is Islam consistent with our constitutional principles and values? The answer, of course, is no, it is not. It is completely antithetical and is the antithesis of all that we hold dear. If it were, then Nigerian Christians would not be getting wantonly murdered for no reason other than being Christian…or Jews would not be targeted to be killed just for being Jewish.
History has taught us that we have been here before. In 1095 AD, Pope Urban II called for a Crusade to protect Christians in the Holy Land. In 2025, President Trump is confronting why Christians are being slaughtered in Nigeria. As King Solomon would say, “there is nothing new under the sun.” I do not condemn individual muslims, but rather it is time we had an honest, constitutional debate about whether Islam is compatible with our Constitution and acceptable in our Constitutional Republic. And I did not go in depth about rights for women at all in this missive.
I leave you with the words of the only foreigner to have a US Naval warship named after him, Sir Winston Churchill…
“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful, fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property—either as a child, a wife, or a concubine—must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.”
Yes, there was a reason why Thomas Jefferson had a Quran; it was based upon the response of the Barbary pirates (Mohammedans) who were attacking and enslaving Americans at sea. He wanted to understand such a delusional and deranged faith system. Jefferson responded by sending the U.S. Marines!
Steadfast and Loyal.
