Election Officials are registered voters of the town who are appointed by the BCA as needed or to ensure political party balance and can include assistant town clerks (who may serve as election officials even if they are not registered voters of the town). §2454. All appointed election officials must be sworn in before entering upon their duties. Sixteen and seventeen-year-olds can be appointed as assistant election officials working under the direct supervision of adult election officials, but are not sworn in because they are under 18 and therefore cannot take oaths.
