Our country is a nation of immigrants! Rational immigration policies have served us well for nearly 250 years. They have provided diversity, strength and have been a key component of the great American Experiment.

However, immigration was never intended to be “self-serve.” Wide open borders, combined with aid and assistance to anyone entering the United States illegally with little if any vetting, has created a dangerous environment in our country. Intentional policies like open borders, catch and release, and financial benefits for illegal aliens, often not available to United States Citizens, have not only allowed criminal elements to enter the country; they have enabled and encouraged this migration of dangerous elements to the United States.

Sadly, politicians and law enforcement leaders around the country are resisting efforts of the federal government to deport dangerous criminal illegal aliens. These sanctuary city policies have resulted in countless violent crimes and the easy importation of dangerous drugs like fentanyl, which has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans.

As of March 7, 2025, at 9 a.m., ICE has signed 287(g) JEM agreements with 73 law enforcement agencies in 21 states, 287(g) WSO agreements with 128 law enforcement agencies in 17 states, and 287(g) TFM agreements with 117 agencies in 12 states.

Section 287(g) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act allows the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to delegate immigration enforcement authority to state and local law enforcement officers, enabling them to work with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to identify, process, and detain immigration offenders.

287(g) Models

ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations operates three 287(g) models:

The Jail Enforcement Model is designed to identify and process removable aliens — with criminal or pending criminal charges — who are arrested by state or local law enforcement agencies.
The Task Force Model serves as a force multiplier for law enforcement agencies to enforce limited immigration authority with ICE oversight during their routine police duties.
The Warrant Service Officer program allows ICE to train, certify and authorize state and local law enforcement officers to serve and execute administrative warrants on aliens in their agency’s jail.
