Former Congressman Lt. Col. Allen West Joins American Constitutional Rights Union as Executive Director

The American Constitutional Rights Union (ACRU) announced today that former Congressman Lt. Col. Allen West (ret.) has joined the organization as Executive Director. West was formerly the founding chairman of ACRU’s Committee to Support and Defend Project that amplifies the voices of veterans and mobilizes them to work in their communities to promote liberty.

The American Constitutional Rights Union filed an amicus brief in support of Coach Joe Kennedy, who lost his teaching job because he knelt and said a quiet prayer by himself after a football game ended. The Ninth Circuit noted that, because Coach Kennedy taught and coached football at a public high school, his prayer was government speech that has no First Amendment protection and that, even if his prayer was private, the City would violate the Establishment Clause if it allowed the prayer to continue.

Maskless Middle School Student Placed in Solitary Confinement Enlists American Constitutional Rights Union to Fight Back

Young Isabella Koons was placed in solitary confinement every school day for a week after exercising her right to adhere to Virginia Governor Youngkin’s Executive Order Number Two, allowing students to attend school without wearing masks. Loudon County District officials suspended Isabella when she and her parents were not sufficiently intimidated out of exercising their rights, as expressed in Governor Youngkin’s Order. The suspension is for an indefinite period, to be lifted only once Isabella agrees to wear a mask in school. The School District has threatened that if Isabella is found on any property belonging to the Loudoun County School District (i.e., the taxpayers of Loudoun County), she will be arrested and charged criminally with trespassing.
